About Me

Hi, I’m Rachel.

I’m a Medical Student Blogger and YouTuber.

I am currently a second-year medical student in the United States. And my goal is to help you get motivated and inspired, whether it’s about life in medical school, becoming a doctor, maintaining academic success, dealing with stress and burnout, or simply just…getting your cat to love you.

The Honest Truth of How It All Started

I didn’t want to be a doctor when I was a kid. From hearing about all the hard work required to be one from family and friends, I didn’t want to get myself into it. The surprising thing was one event after another slowly led me into the world of healthcare.

The turning point in my life was volunteering at my local hospital in high school. At the time, I did it just to kill some time and at the same time, make my parents happy that I was even a smidge interested in the medical field. Then in college, I spontaneously wanted to be a Pharmacist. But then right before I graduated, I changed my mind.

Why I Wanted To Be a Doctor

I was in a pickle. I was about to graduate college but I still had no idea what I wanted to do as a career. I spent the last few months of school thinking about all my past experiences and how I felt about them. But I was still at a loss.

My mom called me one day and asked about my future plans. I told her the truth, that “I wasn’t sure what to do anymore.” She asked me, out of all of the experiences I had in my life, what interested me the most. I told her, the healthcare field was mildly interesting – but I didn’t like my volunteering experience at the hospital. And I already crossed off being a Pharmacist out of the picture. She asked me why.

It kind of hit me. The reason that I still wanted to be a part of healthcare and yet not fully commit myself to do it. The problem was being a volunteer itself. I had a great time volunteering and I loved all the people I was able to help – it was meaningful to me and gave me a sense of fulfillment. The only negative feeling I had during that time was the feeling of incompetence. I wished that I could help patients more than just giving them a warm blanket or some water. I wished I could help them relieve them from their pain. I wanted to help scared patients who couldn’t speak English. I wanted to do more in healthcare than being just a volunteer.

And once I figured out what I wanted to do in the healthcare field, I knew I wanted to be a doctor.

Why I Started Blogging

Before getting into medical school, I would search on Google for millions of topics about medical school. Some answers were found but a lot more questions were still unanswered. I was baffled.

The summer after the first year of medical school, I decided to start blogging. I wanted to let others that had the same questions as I did, get the honest insights and details of medical school and the whole process. Pursuing this career is a lot of discipline, dedication, and financial stress, so it’s a no brainer that most people would want to learn more about the process. And so, I’m here to help you answer any questions that you might have about medical school or the medical field through my blog.

Interesting Facts

I graduated from a university with a Biochemistry degree in California. I pursued a Master’s degree afterward and fell in love with research. Then, I got into medical school and is loving every bit of it.
